Wonderful Day!

Céad Míle Fáilte to Queen Elizabeth 11 and the Duke of Edinburgh.

I think it's a wonderful day for both countries, and hope it will be the start of a new future for us as neighbours. I think, in all the photos I've seen, the Queen is smiling broadly and looks really, genuinely happy to be here.

Some think it's too early in the "peace process" for this visit- I disagree. I think Queen Elizabeth is very brave to undertake it, and I think we should welcome her with open arms. I commend our President, Mary Mc Aleese, and her husband Dr. Martin Mc Aleese, who have worked so hard building bridges towards peace on this island.

A tiny minority set out to cause trouble, but so far, the Gardai have done a fantastic job of keeping them at bay. They do not represent the majority, who fully support this visit.

Even though people will not get to shake hands with Her Majesty, because of stringent security precautions, everyone I know is delighted with this visit. The most important thing is that it is taking place, and that our visitors are safe and enjoy their first visit. We're happy to wait till next time, or another time, for the hand-shaking.

And finally, I'm very late with this, but I also want to say that I really enjoyed watching this beautiful couple!

I loved the pomp, ceremony, fashion (though not some of the hats).

Most of all, I loved that Kate Middleton did her own make-up!

On her wedding day! even I didn't do that, and I had only a handful of people watching me, not 2 billion! She definitely won me over with that act!

  1. This is a beautiful day! What a lovely way to honor what is going on here.

Oh, and that Kate, she is quite the amazing lady, very comfortable in her own skin. It is a nice blend of royalty and common to have such a lady of her class be even more amazing than anyone could have dreamed.

She certainly has a lovely man to hold her heart too.

    I love this post!

I agree with you that Kate is an exceptional young woman.

  3. I hadn't heard that the Queen was paying you a visit, the papers here have been full of the regional goings on.

Hopefully this is the start of a brighter, happier, more peaceful era for both your countries.

(And yes, Kate looked divine but some of those hats, dear god...)

  4. I think the queen looks more and more like her mother by each year.;)
Kate is very beautiful and I hope she will bring some tranquility with her beauty to the royal house.;)
Did not know she did her own make up.;) I did make up on my sister for her wedding day, as she came back from the stylist crying her eyes out saying she hated what the did to her.;) She loved the way she looked after I finished, so I guess I would probably also do my own, if that would ever be in the cards for me.;)
Have a lovely week dear Mimi,
    xoxo
