Summer Stock Sunday

I know that to some of you, this might not look like much of a summer picture, but it was not a bad day (for Ireland).
This was taken on a recent visit to Newgrange, Co. Meath, Ireland. Newgrange, or Brú na Bóinne (Mansion of the Boyne) is a prehistoric passage tomb, 5000 years old. Yes, it pre-dates even the Pyramids and Stonehenge.
I'm planning to do a full post on my trip, soon. This was the view from the hilltop where the tomb is located
And an interesting twist to this post is that it was Robin, who hosts Summer Stock Sunday who made me aware of the significance of Newgrange, following her post on it when she visited Ireland! even though I've lived one hour's drive away from it, and my friend lives 20 minutes walk from it, I had never been.
Through Robin's eyes, I saw my own country differently.

  2. Oh, yes! We were really impressed by Newgrange. The wisdom and skill of those early builders to create such an amazing work is mind-boggling. I could easily see why this would be the land to be celebrated by poets and kings alike.

That looks quite green and summery to me. And knowing our climate, you can see why we were never fazed by the spells of Irish rain and mists while there.

  3. This is such a fantastic photo with its layers of color and texture and the two sheep so symmetrically grazing away like mirror-twins.

Having a wee bit of Irish in me, I do hope one day to visit your beautiful country. I know there is so much there to enjoy. And I am looking forward to your further posts on Newgrange!

  5. It's an incredible place, isn't it? I'm so glad you've been to visit :).

PS Did you see all sorts of sheep roaming the hillside? They were all newborn lambs when we were there. So sweet, and so fun to watch as they played, too.

  8. It looks so beautiful. I love Ireland. I was there in 2009 with my family and I can't wait to go back. We were in Dublin only a half a day. We flew in to Dublin and then went to County Wicklow, then Kinsale, then Galway. I can't wait to go back to Ireland!

  11. I loved this. Isn't it often true that visitors help us to see everything -- even our own lives -- differently? I remember when we'd have visitors in China, I would always see China differently -- remember all the interesting things about it that had become everyday to me. It was very illuminating.

Five thousand years old! Wow, that almost boggles the mind!
