in the run up..

The past 2 weeks have been really hectic, especially with band concerts and Carol services, and now my body has given the "rest" instruction! I've decided to take it easy today, and leave shopping and preparations till tonight/tomorrow.

I was at the Band Party last night, and it was a whizz. I really enjoyed meeting my fellow musicians away from the music, and just getting to know them as people. They're such a lovely group, and so supportive.

It's funny how, when you come into a group of people as the "newbie", you make assumptions about the people already there. Or at least, I made assumptions. And last night I discovered that lots of those assumptions were wrong. One player, who I thought had been with the band for years, only joined last year. So she's almost a newbie too! Another player who I thought was very confident, is quite nervous when playing solos.

And so on. As well as being a good night out, I learned a lot, and I will be a different person when I come into that band hall in January 2012.

How are your preparations coming along? Is everything organised?

  1. Oh, Mimi, of course I'm not organized. I'm in the middle of dyeing yarn and knitting. But I think I'm ready. One more gift to buy and that's it.

I'm glad you can give yourself permission to take a rest day. It sounds like the last two weeks have been a whirlwind of 'show biz'! Enjoy the time off.
I hope that you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!

  2. I thought my Christmas food was all organised but found my family had eaten all the Christmas cheese and Pringles today! So tomorrow I will have to shop again. I will have to lock them up!
    Have a wonderful Christmas, Mimi.

  4. Beautiful post dear Mimi, I guess we all have assumption and preconceived notions, but it is nice when they turn out to be wrong and it makes us think and grow.;)
Wishing you and yours a lovely Christmas and all the best in the New Year,
    xoxo

  5. Yes! I'm done and just now putting your lovely CD into my itunes account. It came in Friday's mail. Thanks so much for sending it. Not only does my house look like Christmas, and sound like Christmas, but thanks to you, it also smells like Christmas!

  6. Mimi, it is reassuring to know that everyone doesn't have it all together. My sister had a heart attack about a week ago and I have been taking care of her. Out went any ideas of finishing last minuted details.

Merry Christmas to you and yours. I loved hearing about your concert. I am sure it was wonderful.
