Paul, you ROCK!

Went to Paul Mc Cartney in the RDS, Dublin, tonight.

It was the best concert I've ever been at. The man is incredible. To compose music that people still love 40 years on is one thing, but to also be able to perform it, well into your sixties, is just amazing. He performed 35 songs, over roughly 3 hours.
.

Photo courtesy of Hubbie- the percussionist was amazing too!

I've heard some singers who I loved say, 20 years ago, and as they got older, they lost that edge in their voice, and sounded, well, sad. Not so with Paul- he sounded just as good as any of the cd's that i have. And he looked amazing too. He seemed to be really enjoying himself up on that stage, singing his heart out. At times, his face had that "little boy lost" look, and I'm not joking you, he could have been in his twenties. At other times, ok, you could see lots of wrinkles and floppy skin, but I don't care, he sounded so brilliant.

Two young (i.e. late teens) Spanish girls beside me sang along to every song, knew all the words. When he sang "The Long and Winding Road", they were in tears.

I, too, sang along to lots of the songs, and also danced! Paul took command of the entire crowd, wooing us like the master that he is, and we just couldn't get enough of it!

Now I know why Beatlemania took hold!
The Telegraph says it exactly as I'd like to "Armed only with his four-piece band and the greatest collection of pop hits in history, he travelled back and forth across the decades like the Dr Who of rock and roll. Whatever elixir the 67-year-old Macca is running on remains a mystery, but he seems to get a huge charge from performing to an audience, especially one that is bombarding him with waves of adoration".

And if he comes back to Dublin? Just tell me where to book.

Maxine on Saturday

I love this Maxine! And, after today's performance (if you could call it that!) , this IS how I feel.

For more Maxine on Saturday, or to take part, head over to Mary T's place with this link.

Promised Docklands post

Soooo.... the Docklands Festival was a bit of a washout.
It rained, then it rained some more, and more.
I wasn't too badly off, as I had a jacket with a hood (for once!), but poor Hubby had nothing for his head. We nipped into a little coffee place for a short while, in the hope that the rain would stop, but eventually we gave up and headed home.
Not before I got this picture for you! It's called the "Jeanie Johnson" and is a reconstruction of that famous Famine Ship.
What do you think of Jeanie? I think she's flaunting it a bit! We didn't go on board, because in spite of the rain, there was a huge queue.

Other news- I did my Grade 6 French Horn exam today. Why is it that, no matter how much I tell myself that it doesn't matter, that nothing rides on the result, I still get incredibly nervous the minute I go in the door? I've put in many hours on practice, yet I couldn't play the C scale.
The exam was supposed to be at 11.50, so by 11.40 I had warmed up and was all ready, except to nip to the toilet. But then I was called, about 10 minutes early. In that split second, I couldn't get up the courage to say "sorry but I've to go to the toilet first, my exam is not scheduled till 11.50" , so I went ahead in.

When I couldn't play the scales, I was disappointed, felt so let down. It must have looked as though I hadn't worked at all, and I hate that. It's not so much the result, as knowing that I didn't do myself or my teacher justice for all the work we've put in. I just wish I was not so easily thrown off course.
I've tried Rescue Remedy, essential oils, yoga, mind-over-matter...if anyone knows of anything else, please do tell. There is some trick about imagining the examiner naked, so if nobody has any better ideas, I might try that next time..if there is a next time!

Moved House

I haven't moved to this woodland! No, my friends, I like this place to visit but it would be way, way too remote a place for me to live. I like my shops and friends nearby.

Apologies to anyone who has been trying to reach me, or to comment if links haven't worked.
I changed my blog address, cos I never liked the old one- "mimis-world" just sounded so "full-of-myself" - I only selected cos blogger suggested it. Gosh, that sound so like "I only did it cos she told me to"!

I then deleted the old blog (i think) and then all comments disappeared, but they seem to now be back so maybe that was Blogger acting up.

Anyway, you get the picture, I'm useless with computers outside of my (narrow) knowledge of word and accounts! But thank you to everyone who emailed me and contacted me - it's nice to know that you're looking out for me!
Yesterday, we went to the Dublin Docklands Festival instead of the Japanese Gardens, but because of rain, took only one photo, which I'll post tomorrow.
Come back sunshine, pretty please! The garden is watered now, and needs some warmth.
These photos are the last two from our trip to Glendalough , I love this tree trunk..really old and wise, unlike me!

Mellow Yellow Monday

It feels like an age since I posted- sorry for neglecting my blog, life has been really crazy busy, and I was sick so didn't feel like posting.

I was going through some old photos today (clearout about to happen!) , and this seems perfect for MYM.

Have a lovely Monday, everyone! It's a bank holiday here, the Womens' Mini Marathon is on, and if the sun shines, I'm off to the Japanese Gardens. I'll bring the camera!

Drowsey Monkey hosts MYM, and there are lots of lovely pics over there.
