I'm convinced the recession is over

This is just a short post, a filler-in.
I don't know whether it's post-party exhaustion or what, but honestly I can't get the time or the energy to even do a decent post. I apologise- it has just been one of those weeks that at the end of it, you go "Phew, glad that's over, but actually where DID those 7 days go?"

Now, back to this title, I really am convinced.
Last night, Hubby and I went off out for our tea, and popped into a local little restaurant/café.
Us: "Do you have a table for 2 please?"
Them : "Do you have a booking?"
Us: "No"
Them: "Sorry, we have nothing till 9.30". Full to the brim.

Now, that is a good sign, isn't it? ( Apart from the "do you have a booking" question which drives me mad- I always want to say "if I did, I would have said so"!)

Then today, I went to the shops and it took 15 minutes to get into the car park of the shopping centre! Packed! Queues at all the checkouts! Nearly like Christmas.

But please, whatever you do, don't tell either Brian Cowen or Brian Lenehan this- they are currently drafting what's billed as the worst budget in decades, with cuts all round.

  1. Sounds like home, Mimi. Budget cuts are brutal and yet the parking lots are full. However, my son the sous-chef, could tell you a different story about those bookings. We got into a fine restaurant (normally full up) on a Sunday night with a party of 13 on a day's notice. This is where the crunch really shows...those little extras and luxuries.
Lovely to hear from you and to see your post. But we all have our busy times...it's understood.

  2. It is difficult to get a table in many restaurants at the weekend but can be done during the week.
I am not looking forward to budget cuts. All we seem to do is pay out more & more in taxes and the Government wastes our money left, right & centre. Don't get me started!

    Nuts in May

  4. Stephanie, I agree with you re extras and luxuries, we've all cut down on those, haven't we.
Maggie May- you should see the money our Government has wasted- unbelievable!
TTWC- seems to be everywhere, doesn't it?

I hope I'm not being too optimistic, I always look on the bright side.
    Thanks for all your comments.

  5. Interesting post. I think that it is a good thing and a bad thing at the same time that people are beginning to spend a lot of money again. I think that if we all stopped feeding the glutonous pig that is called intrest Americans would truly pull themselves out of the recession.
    Very thought provoking!
And thanks for coming to visit me today! You were the only one to visit me today, so THANK YOU!
Oh and your ball seems like it would have been a lot of fun. The whole idea is really quite novel!

  6. It's really ironic. But I read somewhere that recessions for some are a boom for somebody else. I was net chatting with my sister in London this evening and she told me that her husband's job is being outsourced to India of all places. Can you believe it?
