A hat!

I finally got back to a little bit of knitting!
I had seen this pattern on Stephanie's blog, Hookin', Knittin' and Livin', and thought it looked fun and, more important, quick to knit. Then daughter, out of the blue, asked would I knit her a hat. Lickety split, I pulled out 2 balls of alpaca and began, before anything could intervene. The double strand was to (almost!) tie in with the yarn used in the pattern (I knew it was still slightly thinner, so I adjusted the number of stitches), but also, as she will be wearing it for rowing practice, I figured the extra warmth will come in useful during these winter months.

The colour doesn't look as good here as it actually is, but these days the motto is "just do it", because there are too many things intervening and if I wait until conditions are better, chances are it won't get done!
Back soon, hope you're all having a nice weekend!

  1. I used to love knitting Mimi. Last week I passed a market stall selling wool and my blood started racing. To feel the needles wizzing in my hands and smell the wool would be wonderful.

    1. Go for it, Ann! I used to do a LOT of knitting, and it was lovely to feel the yarn again, and also the sense of creating something unique. Start with a hat!!

I have always been a knitter until arthritis slowed me down.

  6. Super cute. I am so disappointed when color doesn't translate in a photo.

  7. It is cute and I know what you mean about the colour not showing correctly but I don't doubt it looks lovely.

  8. People raise alpacas in our area. They're so adorable and the yarn is so soft! I can just imagine how lovely this hat feels. Nice job - and the color is beautiful! <3

  9. Don't you love those kinds of serendipity? The hat looks so cosy and warm. The color helps, too - even if I can't get the true shade - bright and sunny is always warming. It will definitely keep ears toasty while she's on the water.

Thank you for the mention and I'm sorry it's taken me a week to get here. And to think we met because of knitting.

  10. Hi Mimi, I hope you're well. I've been out of the blogging loop for a while. I'm trying to get back again. It's been a long time. Strange, your feedjit is showing me as visiting from Gurgaon in Haryana in India. That's in another state completely. Yes, I love knitting and would love to get back to it again. I used to knit myself loads of tops years ago in Dublin - just using cotton yarn, the same front and back and just plain and purl stitches. It's so satisfying and relaxing.
