Favourite piece of clothing

Getting dressed this morning, I was thinking about this top, and the number of times I've worn it.

I bought it about 1989, and it's still going strong! The label is Chinatown, which John Rocha designed for Awear at that time.
I think it has to be a number 1 in the "cost-per-wear" stakes. It cost £30, which wasn't huge money at the time, but enough. I must have worn it at least 300 times by now. It's one of the most versatile pieces of clothing that I have, can be worn on its own or under a jacket, for day or evening or work wear. It's pure linen, which has creasing issues (I don't mind that), but I have boiled and bleached it when it got a bit yellow looking, and still it's in good shape.
I love the little pleats at the back, and the tiny pockets at the front, and I always feel good when I wear it. What more can you ask of a top?
What's your favourite/ most worn piece of clothing?

  1. My favorite piece of clothing was what I use to call 'my interview dress'. I always wore it when I went on a job interview and I always got the job! I had it for years and finally got rid of it a last year...I haven't worked since! I'm absolutely serious! I'm hoping it's just a coincidence!

  2. Good gracious, and the style is still in fashion. I have some oldies that are still very wearable but they are geared to weight ... up or down. Sooner or later they come in useful again.

  3. Pretty top - it's the linen that makes it, I'm sure. My favorite piece is a denim jacket that I made myself years ago. It goes with everything and can be dressed up or down. That seems to be one characteristic of a long-lived garment. Like linen, denim wears very well, too. And never seems go out of style as a fabric.
